How the strategy is built
- Asset register and hierarchy. A clean, structured register is the foundation. Gaps and duplicates are resolved before anything is ranked.
- Criticality ranking. Each asset is ranked on the consequence of failure (safety, environment, production and cost) and on its likelihood. The work starts at the top of the list.
- Failure modes and effects. FMECA to AS IEC 60812 on the critical assets: how each one fails, what that failure causes, and how it can be detected or prevented.
- Maintenance tasks and intervals. The right mix of preventive tasks, condition monitoring, risk-based inspection and, where it is justified, run-to-failure.
- Whole-of-life decisions. Repair, refurbish or replace, weighed on lifecycle cost and risk rather than on the last breakdown.
- ISO 55001 alignment. A review of your asset management system against ISO 55000 and ISO 55001, with a prioritised list of gaps to close.
Reliability-led, not inspection-led
A lot of maintenance on ageing plant is inspection-led: measure it, report it, repeat. That produces data without decisions. A reliability-led strategy starts from what failure would cost and works back to the tasks that prevent it, so every inspection has a reason and every finding has a next step.

Reliability and asset management FAQs.
We have very little failure data. Can we still rank criticality?
Yes. Criticality starts with consequence, which you can assess today. Likelihood is estimated from maintenance history, condition data and the knowledge of the people who run the plant, then refined as records improve. Nothing is invented to fill the gaps: assumptions are recorded where they can be checked.
Is this ISO 55001 certification?
No. Veristruct reviews how well your asset management system aligns with ISO 55001 and helps close the gaps. Certification is issued by an accredited certification body.
Will the strategy work with our CMMS?
Task lists, intervals and hierarchies are delivered in a structured format for upload, such as an SAP PM template or a CSV laid out to suit your system.
Where do we start if the whole site needs work?
With criticality. A ranked list shows which assets carry most of the risk, and the first FMECA work goes there. Lower-criticality assets get simpler strategies later.
Can this be ongoing rather than a one-off project?
Yes. Ongoing reliability support, failure reviews and strategy updates are available on a monthly retainer with reserved hours.
Do you work with councils?
Yes. Asset management plans, condition assessment of plant and structures, and lifecycle costing for renewal decisions all fit local government asset portfolios.
